AIR program takes off in Pontiac

This City of Pontiac approved the addition of the AIR Program, which stands for Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation, to Pontiac Parks and Recreation, and since the end of 2017, it’s really gaining popularity.

Coordinator Heather Christianson gave more information about how the programs work.

“In the first month that it has become the AIR Program, we’ve offered six programs to our participants and the Rec Center has made the entire Rec Center available for our participants, so it’s not them just coming in and participating in these six activities. If they want to, they have access to the pool, they have access to the track – everything that anyone else would have available, they would have available,” Christianson said.

Christianson also explained the age ranges and qualifications to participate.

“If you have a special need, you are eligible. It’s anyone from birth to 99 years old, so anyone can come participate. If there is for some reason an age restriction, it is noted and it’s only because of safety reasons,” Christianson said.
