When Pontiac District 90 met last, the idea of adding Latin Honors to its list of programs and ways of recognizing students was discussed.
Superintendent Jon Kilgore said the terms “summa cum laude” and “magna cum laude,” which you hear typically when college students are discussed, may be an honor bestowed to PTHS students in the future.
“We’re looking at ways that we continue to recognize our students achieving at the highest levels and continue to raise the bar for the most amount of students as possible. It’s very difficult to reach that highest level. I think we’re in a situation where we looked at the current seniors, and mind you if this went into effect (it’s pure discussion right now, but if it did, it would be for the class of 2022) however, if you were looking at the numbers, the current seniors at the summa cum laude level if we had that in place, that would be, I think Mr. Bohm said, about 8 or 9 students out of the entire senior class that reach that threshold right now,” Kilgore said.
Kilgore was a guest on a recent Community Forum, which can be found at WJEZ.com.
