While people reach for sports drinks or other specially formulated drinks for the post workout cool down, there is another drink that does the job just as well.
Monica Nyman with the St. Louis Dairy Council said something as simple as a glass of chocolate milk will do the job.
“Number one – it provides fluid for hydration. It does have electrolytes in it. It’s not marketed that way – some of your sports drinks will say they have electrolytes, but it does have sodium, magnesium and potassium, which are all important electrolytes to replenish, because you lose those when you sweat. It has the ideal amount of carbohydrates and protein to repair your muscles. It’s a great way to meet your three recommended servings of dairy each and every day. So there are lots of reasons chocolate milk is a great recovery beverage,” Nyman said.
Nyman was a guest on a recent Community Forum, where she further explains the benefits of milk and other dairy products.
