Monday was a light night for basketball due in part to the weather, but the small school girls basketball regionals got underway at several locations. Pontiac’s game at Coal City was postponed. In the 1A Midland Regional at Varna, host Midland defeated Roanoke-Benson, 47-37, while the 2A Regional at Flanagan was delayed. Flanagan-Cornell-Woodland will play Kewanee tonight along with Seneca vs. Henry. We have our next high school feature tomorrow night on Classic Hits 98.9 as Dwight takes on Tri-Point.

 

Illinois state junior guard Keyshawn Evans is expected to miss one to three weeks with a bone bruise, though an MRI on his injured left knee showed no structural damage. Evans is the Redbirds’ third leading scorer. The Redbirds host Southern Illinois on Thursday night.

 

Ohio State’s Keita Bates-Diop from University High in Normal is the Big Ten Player of the Week. He averaged 24 points and 13 rebounds in two Buckeye wins.

 

The Chicago Bulls squandered a 21-point lead at Sacramento and lost to the Kings, 104-98. The Bulls dropped their seventh in a row.

 

The Detroit Lions have officially hired New England defensive coordinator Matt Patricia its new head coach.
