To come into Pontiac and sell door to door, businesses have to go through a strict application process, and not all businesses are granted permits.
Pontiac Mayor Bob Russell admits that unauthorized peddlers have been driven out of Pontiac on several instances, but there were some looking to convince people to sign up with an aggregate power supplier that were recently approved, which still comes with a warning from the City.
“When we give a peddler’s permit, we have to check out the company, they have to tell us who their salespeople are and we have to do a background check on every one of them, because we don’t want people who aren’t approved knocking on people’s doors. This one met all the qualifications, so starting here in a couple of weeks, this group will be in town for about four days days, knocking on doors. And we just want to caution you – the city already has an electric aggregation plan, and you’re probably not going to get a better rate from any of these companies,” Russell said.
Russell was a guest on a recent Community Forum, where he talks more about peddler’s licenses, upcoming street work and the storefronts seeing recent improvements. That can be found at WJEZ.com.
