Debunking myths about the United Way

The United Way of Livingston County is working toward raising its goal and it currently at 50 percent, but there are still people who aren’t sure about donating because of several rumors that spread like wildfire on social media.

Executive Director Deb Howard takes calls on a regular basis, answering questions from where does the money go all the way to answering who all the benefitting agencies are, but one question that she wanted to clear up is how much of every dollar donated goes to the agencies.

“There is some expense in running anything, whether it’s United Way, Boys and Girls Club or Futures. But 86 cents on every dollar is a very good number. You’d be hard pressed to find other fundraising groups that that much goes back,” Howard said.

Howard said she welcomes any and all of the questions and the donations. She can be reached at 844-5131.
