The Livingston County Board heard a presentation from the Pontiac Township High School Life Skills Class and teacher Laura Baumgardner Thursday evening about Respect Week and the board chose to declare a county-wide resolution for the week of March 3.

Board Chairman Bob Young retold the presentation and the outcome.

“We declared resolution week in March. There’s a week set aside for everybody just to have respect for one another and they’re doing that in the classroom and that’s a positive thing. I was very impressed with Ms. Baumgardner and the way she talked and acted with her students. It’s just a wonderful feeling that we have that type of thing here,” Young said.

With three county official seats up for election this year, the salaries for the positions were set also set Thursday evening.

Young explained how the board worked to make it happen.

“You’ve got to set salaries for elected officials 180 days before the general election, so that was why we needed to be doing it now. There were three salaries that were up – the county clerk, treasurer and sheriff. We’ve done comparable salary analysis and Livingston County is about in the middle for comparable counties, so we did up those salaries. We wanted to be competitive and we wanted to stay in the ballgame so people know what the salaries are,” Young said.
