Livingston County candidates speak, sheriff edition

The Livingston County Farm Bureau, WJEZ and the Central Illinois Farm Network hosted a candidate forum Tuesday night at The Eagle Performing Arts and Conference Center.

Jack Wiser who will appear first on the ballot for County Sheriff describes what he wants to do in office if elected.

“My first term is to bring transparency back to the department, get the communication skills between police officers and the citizens back up to speed the way it should be, go after the drugs as hard as I can and make sure we put in place plans for our schools,” Wiser said.

Incumbent Tony Childress talked about his plans if re-elected.

“My plans are to continue to use enhanced technology to combat crime in our county. I think that in the last four years, we have done a good job in bringing crime statistics up, as far as arrests, prosecutions and convictions go. We shall continue to go after drug dealers in this county and any other people who participate in crimes. Here’s my stance – as your Sheriff of Livingston County, if you’re committing crimes in Livingston County, you have options. You can stop committing those crimes or you can leave Livingston County and go to another county or we’re coming after you,” Childress said.

Interviews with County Treasurer candidate Nikki Meier and County Clerk candidate Kristy Masching appear in a separate story.
