The primary election is fast approaching and the county is looking for election judges.
Livingston County Clerk Kristy Masching describes the pay and duties for interested applicants.
“The judges receive $135 a day, but it’s a long day. They have to be at the precinct at 5:00 in the morning. Polls open at 6:00. They close at 7:00 and usually judges have their end of night reports and all their paperwork done and are usually out of there by 8:00. Depending on where they’re at, there’s a little drive. There’s two judges who have to return the tablets with all the memory cards in them, as well as all the voted ballots and all the paper work we need after that. If everything goes without a hitch throughout the county, most of the time, we’re out of there by 10:00,” Masching said.
Masching explains where the judges, which is a paid position, are most needed.
“We are in kind of a dilemma. We’ve been holding classes the last week and have been receiving calls from some of the judges who for, one reason or another, either can’t do it this time or no longer want to. Precincts where we are needing judges are Broughton, Union, Newtown, Indian Grove (which is in Fairbury), Forrest and the Belle Prairie/Fayette/Germanville precinct, which is down in Strawn. So if anyone is interested, please give us a call. We are going to have more training sessions. This Saturday, we have one at 9:30 and one at 1:00. If needed, we’ll have one the following Saturday (March 10) and 1:00,” Masching said.
