Pontiac has advanced to the boys basketball regional finals. The No. 5-seeded Indians got 18 points from Ryan Weir in a 61-54 win over Streator in the Class 3A Regional at Herscher. Pontiac will play the host Tigers at 7 tomorrow night and Classic Hits 98.9 will be there.

 

Two Heart of Illinois teams have moved on to the sectional finals. Ridgeview got 41 points from Justin Myers to take down Decatur Lutheran, 76-59, in the sectional at Danville. The Mustangs will take on St. Anne in the sectional championship Friday night. Deer Creek-Mackinaw was a winner over Williamsville 54-43 at Farmington. The Chiefs will meet Warsaw West Hancock in the finals on Friday. Fieldcrest fell to Chicago Corliss, 60-49, at the Clifton Central Sectional.

 

Illinois had an early exit from the Big Ten Tournament, losing to Iowa, 96-87, at Madison Square Garden. Brad Underwood’s first season with the Illini ends in February with a 14-18 mark.

 

As the calendar turns to March, Arch Madness tips off tonight in St. Louis with two opening-round matchups. Northern Iowa takes on Evansville, followed by Valparaiso and Missouri State. Illinois State plays the last quarterfinal game tomorrow night against Indiana State.

 

Former Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte us calling it a career. He spent eight of his 10 seasons in Chicago, falling just short of 10,00 career rushing yards.
