Pontiac gets rewarded for its regional championship in boys basketball with a home date in the sectional. The Indians will take on Chicago Heights Marian in the sectional semifinal tomorrow night at PTHS after their win at Herscher in a Class 3A Regional Final on Friday.

 

Illinois State has to settle for second place again at the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship game. The Redbirds endured a cold shooting day in a 65-49 loss to Loyola, sending the Ramblers into the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 33 years. ISU stands at 18-15 and hopes for an NIT bid next week.

 

Michigan clinched the Big Ten tournament’s automatic bid beating Purdue in the final. The 5th-seeded Wolverines knocked off the Boilermakers, 75-66, at Madison Square Garden.

 

Other automatic bids went to Radford which won the Big South title game on a buzzer beater and Lipscomb which took the Atlantic Sun.

 

The Chicago Blackhawks were doubled up by Anaheim, 6-3. The Hawks have just one win in their last eight games.

 

Kevin Harvick won his second straight NASCAR Monster Series race as he took the checkered flag at Las Vegas on Sunday. 

 

Phil Mickelson, who hadn’t won since capturing the 2013 British Open, ended the longest drought of his career yesterday when he toppled Justin Thomas in a playoff to win the World Golf Championships at Mexico.
