Pontiac’s Cinderella run in the basketball postseason came to and end last night. the Indians were no match for Marian Catholic of Chicago Heights, 66-40, at the Class 3A Sectional semifinal at PTHS. Pontiac ends the season at 17-13 after making their first sectional appearance since 2013.

 

Ridgeview saw its state title hopes get dashed in a 39-32 loss to Annawan in the Class 1A Super-Sectional at Redbird Arena.

 

More automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament were handed out last night. Wright State won the Horizon League title. Charleston took the Colonial, LIU-Brooklyn grabbed the Northeast Conference, Gonzaga claimed the West Coast Conference, South Dakota State nabbed the Summit League crown.

 

Jonathan Toews scored nine seconds into overtime as the Chicago Blackhawks topped Colorado, 2-1,  at United Center.

 

The Chicago Bears have placed the transition tag on cornerback Kyle Fuller, paying him just under 13 million dollars for one year. The transition tag means the Bears can match any offer next year but don’t get compensation if Fuller leaves.

 

NFL referee Ed Hochuli, known for his biceps, is retiring. Hochuli’s son Shawn will move from back judge to referee to replace his father.

 

The bullpen buggy is back. The Arizona Diamondbacks will be the first Major League Baseball team since the mid-1990s to use a cart to escort a relief pitcher from the bullpen to the pitcher’s mound.
