Ridgeview’s Justin Myers was named to the Class 1A basketball All-State second team, while teammate and fellow senior Jacob Donaldson was named an honorable mention all-stater.

Illinois State’s Simone Goods has been named Missouri Valley Conference newcomer of the year in women’s basketball. The Omaha, Nebraska native leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.7 points per game and is second with 6 rebounds per game.

The Redbird women’s basketball team is gearing up for the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The Redbirds play Northern Iowa at Hoops in the Heartland in Moline tonight. In the opening round last night, Valparaiso beat Loyola, Bradley topped Evansville.

The last coach to take the Redbirds to the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, Kevin Stallings, is out as head coach at Pittsburgh after two seasons. The Panthers went 0-19 in ACC play this season.

The University of Illinois has released a study indicating there is support for the Illini to sponsor a men’s Division One hockey program. The report that was commissioned by the NHL, NHL Players Association and College Hockey says the university appears to have a foundation in place to develop a program that could becoming financially viable and competitive in a relatively short amount of time.
