You can expect delays when traveling on Interstate 55 beginning today between the 201 and 205 mile markers on the north side of Pontiac.
According to a press release from the Illinois Department of Transportation, lane closures will occur in both directions. Southbound traffic will be crossed over and utilize the passing lane of the northbound side. The reconstruction of the southbound lanes will take place in the spring and early summer. Once finished, both directions of traffic will utilize the newly constructed southbound lanes while work is done on the northbound lanes.
Work is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2018.
Slowed and stopped traffic can be expected at times, causing backups and delays. Traffic is recommended to utilize an alternate route of Route 116, Route 23, Route 66 and CH1 in Odell.
