The United Way of Livingston County is nearing its goal, currently sitting at 56 percent of its $201,000 goal and with the Celebration Planned for May 3 to celebrate making its goal, the group is determined to make the goal.
Executive Director Deb Howard explains why she and her board work so hard to reach the goal every year.
“Fifty-two dollars a year times ten people is $510. Times that by 25 people. Times that by 50 people. Times that by 50 people. Times that by 100 people. Times that by 200 people and we can make goal in a heartbeat. And that’s something we really need to do. We’re a big county. We’re raising $201,000 this year and I’ve talked in the past how we turned down over $30,000 worth of applications. Agencies need raises because they’re picking up more kids or elderly as the population gets older and they need more money and unfortunately, we need to turn them down,” Howard said.
