New programs coming to Pontiac Parks and Rec

Something as simple as filling out a suggestion paper at the Pontiac Rec Center can help new programs start.

Director Taylor Baxter said the new cycle studio has that piece of paper to thank for its creation.

“The plan is, is we’re going to transform our golf/hitting room upstairs by the track. Same thing with the racquetball room. It wasn’t getting used a whole lot and there was only a handful of people coming in once a month out of the entire year, so using the best amount of space as we can and now we’re going to transform the room into a cycle studio. Rick Rambo is our maintenance guy and he’s absolutely incredible transforming rooms and we’re excited to see what he’s going to be able to do for us,” Baxter said.

With warmer weather on the way, the department will also be working on the “parks” portion of its title.

“One of our goals this year is to beautify them and make them a little better. So our plan is – we’re going to do some painting on the equipment, we’re going to do a lot of landscaping and flowers (Jim Melvin has helped us out with that in the past couple of years) and really just up our appearance in the parks,” Baxter said.
