In high school baseball, Pontiac got a homerun and two hits from Jacob Duffy in a 5-3 win over IVC. Prairie Central blanked Tolono Unity, 10-0. Dwight was two-hit by Clifton Central, 18-0. Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell was upended by Marquette, 12-1.

 

In softball, Pontiac shutdown IVC, 4-1, to move to 9-1 on the season.

 

Dwight won at Clifton Central, 7-5. Abby Edwards earned the win with 10 strikeouts.

 

Prairie Central outscored Tolono Unity, 11-9. Heidi Meister was the winning pitcher and drove in the deciding runs. She had four RBIs in the win.

 

WFC lost to Marquette, 7-4, at South Streator.

 

Former Prairie Central basketball standout Kiana Coomber is transferring to Memphis after an injury-plagued season at a junior college in Florida. Coomber spend her freshman season at Loyola.

 

The Chicago Cubs drop their first home series of the season as the Pittsburgh Pirates belted four homeruns, including two from Gregory Polanco, in Pittsburgh’s 6-1 win. The Cubs host the Atlanta Braves on Friday afternoon.

 

Jose Martinez drove in six runs as he and three of his St. Louis Cardinals’ teammates homered in a 13-4 win at Cincinnati.

 

Joe Mauer recorded his 2,000th career hit and drove in three runs in Minnesota’s 4-0 win over the Chicago White Sox.

 

The Central Illinois Flying Aces have their final road game of the season Friday night at Chicago. Their season finale is Saturday in Bloomington.

 

The Missouri Valley Conference 25-Year Women’s Golf Team includes two former Illinois State stars. Katie Jean, a Rantoul native, was the Valley Golfer of the Year in 2013 and was medalist in the Valley championships twice. Samantha Richdale was a three-time Valley medalist and four time All-MVC honoree. The Valley is naming 25-year teams in each of its women’s sports in recognition of 25 years of women’s sports in the conference.
