More cold nasty weather kept the local diamonds quiet on Wednesday, including Pontiac’s baseball game with Central Catholic.  In softball, Lexington shutout Dee-Mack, 11-0, at Mackinaw. Jayden Standish homered twice and drove in five runs for the Lady Minutemen.

 

The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals will try again to get a game in on Thursday amid the mid-April winter in Chicago.  The Cubs have already had five games postponed by weather this month.

 

The White Sox built a big early lead with help from a Yoan Moncada grand slam but the Oakland A’s rallied to win, 12-11, in 14 innings to sweep the series.

 

The wind was blowing out at Coaches Stadium in Charleston. Illinois State and Eastern Illinois combined for 10 homeruns in Eastern’s 17-13 win.

 

The Chicago Bears are planning a signing ceremony on Monday when return specialist Devin Hester and running back Matt Forte will ink one-day contracts to they can officially retire which the franchise where they spent most of their careers.
