April is Child Abuse Awareness Month

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month and reminders of the children affected can currently be seen at the Historic Livingston County Courthouse.

Judy Donze, secretary of the Child Protection Network board, explained the pinwheel gardens that were planted in the square recently.

“The pinwheels are just the national symbol for child abuse prevention. They chose those because they represent carefree childhood and happy times that we would want for all of our kids. So, what we do is we put out pinwheels to represent each child that was supported by the Children’s Advocacy Center and the CASA program during 2017 from the stats that we have,” Donze said.

She also explained what the month is all about.

“As part of the Child Protection Network, that is our mission and goal to help to bring awareness to child abuse and also then to support the agencies that help children and families that are in situations of abuse,” Donze said.
