The Livingston County Humane Society welcomes volunteers, dog walkers and the like to the shelter on a regular basis, but an old rule is now being strongly enforced.
Karen Gregory explained that they are sticking by this rule for a good reason.
“You cannot come in and interact with the animals unless you have a volunteer form filled out and you are a regular volunteer, or you have an application that is approved on file. We know a lot of shelters are doing this now and it’s not because of the people, it’s because of the insurance. We want people to understand that and we’ve been trying to put this up on our Facebook. We’ve been trying to let people know whenever they ask us in the outside public. This is not something new, but it’s something that is being strictly enforced,” Gregory said.
