Mahomet-Seymour repeated as champions at the 46th Pontiac Relays. Providence took second place. Pontiac claimed first place in the long jump with the foursome of Cameron Dawson, Angelo Borrego, Donovan Murphy and Blaine Bowman. The Indians also took the triple jump behind Dawson, Borrego, Murphy and Payton Cramer. PTHS claimed 24 personal records in the event in taking 6th place overall. Prairie Central took fourth by winning two events, the varsity 4×200 relay and the frosh-soph 4×100 relay.
Pontiac softball lost to Central Catholic, 4-1, in extras innings. The Saints scored three runs in the 9th to get the win. Dwight scored four runs in seventh as Kat Harms singled in the deciding runs to give the Trojans the lead in a 7-5 win over Paxton-Buckley-Loda. Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell scored 12 runs in the first and cruised to a 13-0 win over Henry-Senachwine. El Paso-Gridley edged Lexington, 11-9, with two runs in the Titans’ final at bat.
In baseball, a late rally fell short for Prairie Central as the Hawks lost to GCMS, 7-4, at Fairbury. Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell plated three runs in the sixth to get past Henry-Senachwine, 4-2.
Kyle Schwarber hit two of the Chicago Cubs’ four homeruns in a 10-3 win at Cleveland in the Cubs first visit to Progressive Field since the 2016 World Series.
Jay Bruce’s 10th inning homerun led the New York Mets to a 6-5 win over the Cardinals in St. Louis.
The Chicago White Sox were shutout by Seattle, 1-0.
Illinois Wesleyan baseball team defeated crosstown rival Illinois State, 10-4, in the 11th Horenberger-Bass Classic at Jack Horenberger Field. It’s just the Titans 3rd win since the series was renewed in 2004.
The Illinois State softball team lost a heartbreaker to Bradley, 6-5. The Braves scored two runs in the seventh inning.
