In baseball, Prairie Central defeated Pontiac, 7-1. Peyton Risgby pitched a complete game and drove in a run for the Hawks.

El Paso-Gridley nipped Fieldcrest, 3-2. Nathan Lavender fanned 15 Knights in 5 1/3 innings.

LeRoy shutout Lexington, 3-0, behind Will Dooley’s complete game, six hitter.

In softball, Pontiac beat Prairie Central in a slugfest, 8-7. Alyssa Fox scored the winning run on a  passed ball after the Hawks had tied the game in the top of the inning.

LeRoy cruised past Lexington, 14-0. Carley Warlow pitched a complete five-inning game. She also homered and drove in four runs.

Fieldcrest outlasted El Paso-Gridley, 8-7, in eight innings.

Jon Lester gave up three solo homeruns in the Cubs 4-1 loss to Cleveland. The Cubs split the series with the Indians.

The White Sox dropped another one-run game to Seattle, 4-3. The Sox are off to their worst start since 1950 with a 5-16 mark.

Jedd Gyorko hit his 100th career homerun and Michael Wacha pitched six strong innings to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 9-1 win over the Mets.

Loyola has announced men’s basketball coach Porter Moser has signed a contract to keep him at the helm of the Ramblers for eight more years through the 2025-26 season. The school did not release financial terms. Moser has been with the Ramblers for seven years, taking them to the past season’s Final Four.

The NFL draft gets underway inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas Thursday with the first round. The Cleveland Browns, who finished last season at a league worst 0-16, get the first and fourth picks. The Chicago Bears selected eighth.

The NCAA commission on college basketball chaired by former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice has unveiled its recommendations. The commission favors elimination of one-and-done players by allowing 18-year-olds to declare for the NBA draft and harsher penalties for cheating coaches among its top recommendations. The commission also favors summer basketball reform and allowing undrafted players to return to school.
