The Raccoon Ridge Rehabilitation, a quiet certified wildlife habitat located north of Chenoa, is busy with young or injured wild animals, all on donations from the public.
Employee Mark Heil explains what they do.
“We basically rehab wildlife and soft release them back into the wild. Most of them come as orphans or babies. Some come as injured adults and we just give them back their second chance at life and get them back into the wild where they can do their thing,” Heil said.
He also said the shelter isn’t exactly open to the public for visits, but gave several ways they could donate.
“Donations are tax deductible because we are 501c3, but we understand a lot of people these days don’t have a lot of expendable incomes, so what we’ve done is set up on Amazon Smiles, which is the simplest way to donate to us. You would simply go to smile.amazon.com and log into your Amazon account as you normally would and then select Raccoon Ridge Rehab as your charity of choice. By doing that, every dollar you spend, Amazon then donates a portion of that money to our organization a few times a year and we get funding that way,” Heil said.
You can find them on Facebook under Racoon Ridge Rehab, email then at [email protected] or call them at 945-4491.
Heil was a guest on a recent Community Forum, where he further detailed the entire business. That is available at wjez.com.
