In softball, Pontiac held off second-ranked Ottawa 4-2 at Williamson Field. Amanda Fox pitched five innings to earn the win and collected two hits, Alyssa Fox drove in two runs for the Indians who improve to 20-7. PTHS faces top-ranked Charleston on Saturday.

 

Dwight topped Gardner-South Wilmington 6-2 in the semifinal of the Class 1A Dwight Regional. Abby Edwards struck out 12 to earn the win. The Trojans move on the finals Saturday against the winner of Wednesday’s game between St. Anne and Armstrong.

 

Fieldcrest’s season came to an end in the Class 2A El Paso-Gridley Regional in a 3-2 loss to Olympia. The game ended with the potential go ahead runs on base for the Knights.

All-star second baseman Robinson Cano of the Seattle Mariners has apologized after testing positive for a diuretic that’s often used as a masking agent for performance enhancing drugs. Major League Baseball suspended Cano 80 games and banned him from the postseason.
