Facilities are Top Priorities for the County Board

The Livingston County Board is still working to replace the aging Health and Education building on Torrance Avenue in Pontiac. At the latest board meeting, the Property Committee recommended allowing The Farnsworth Group to proceed with designing a new facility. Livingston County Board Chair Bob Young says, however, the board wasn’t able to come to a decision. “Individual board members had many, many questions,” Young explains, “and they didn’t feel prepared to go on or take action so we tabled it and we will be having a meeting for board members and the public at a later date.” There’s currently no word on when that meeting will be.

In other business, the board approved a memorandum of understanding that will bring all county facilities under one management structure. Young says the action reverses an unpopular decision that put some county facilities under the control of the sheriff’s department, while the board had responsibility for others. “Through a lot of discussion and cooperation between the County and the Sheriff’s Department, we’re going to try to bring them back under one umbrella and bring them all back to one unit.” Young says he’s optimistic about the move and he describes it as a “win-win”. The changes are already in effect.
