PONTIAC – Heartland Community College will be giving a special presentation at the Eagle Theater on July 7.
As he explained to WJEZ’s Todd Wineburner, presentation creator John LeGear said the presentation, titled American History at Hollywood Speed, encompasses the highlights of American history over the past century. He said the presentation utilizes different forms of media to capture some of America’s biggest moments.
“Basically the idea was to recap the past 100 years of American history in pictures, music, Hollywood film clips, and narrated lives,” LeGear explained. “I actually started it a couple years ago and we’re presenting it to community colleges all over Illinois.”
LeGear noted, in fairness, not every single event in American history would be covered during the presentation. Some things would have to be trimmed down for the sake of time, but overall the presentation takes a look at how things have changed since 1914.
“What we do is we skip a stone across the surface of American history, starting in 1914 and all the way up to present day,” said LeGear. “The idea was to give people a sense of perspective. With all the changes going on today, what if we were to recap the milestone events going back to the beginning of World War I and compare and contrast?”
The presentation starts at 1 p.m. More information on the presentation can be found at www.heartland.edu/continuinged.
