FARIBURY – The Friends of the Dominy Library are stocking the bookshelves in preparation for the annual summer book sale this week.
The book sale runs from Thursday through Saturday in the basement of the Dominy Memorial Library. Friends of the Dominy Library Publicity Director Lillian Rathbun said avid readers come to the book sales in droves.
“Typically our spring sale is the biggest one we do, it’s huge. I’ve got to say the same for the summer and fall, we just have an incredible turnout,” Rathun explained. “We’ve got people from different towns coming all over and every year it just keeps getting bigger and bigger.”
Rathbun added that the book sale will feature books from just about every genre one can think of, from mystery and romance to kid’s books and non-fiction. She said the books have been donated for the sale from a variety of sources.
“We just have thousands of books and we’ve got a storage room, so during the sale we constantly restock the shelves so every day we have something new,” said Rathbun. “All of our books are donated. Some of them are from the Dominy Memorial Library, some from other libraries in the area, but some are just from readers.”
She explained money raised during the sale will go to the library itself.
“All the proceeds benefit the Dominy Memorial Library and we’ve done a lot of things in the past, such as helping the library expand,” Rathbun said.
The Dominy Memorial Library is located at 201 South 3rd Street in Fairbury. The sale will be open on Thursday from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. – noon.
