PONTIAC – The Chairman of the Livingston County Democratic Party says the county board needs more diversity.

John Reis discussed the lack of Democrats on the board with WJEZ’s Todd Wineburner. Reis explained with no Democrats having a seat on the county board, there’s no room for any debate or discussion on issues that come before the board.

“We did an audit on the percent of agreement in the county board for 2017. Everything that came up, there was 90 percent agreement – not much diversity in opinions,” said Reis. “It brings to mind the old saying, ‘if you and I agree on everything, one of us is no longer needed’.”

Reis said there are a handful of Democrats on the ballot for county board this year.

Reis also voiced his support for Sara Dady, the Democratic candidate seeking to unseat Republican Adam Kinzinger in the 16th district. Reis said Dady is working to fight for the middle class.

“She’s a wife, a mother, a small business owner, communication leader, and an immigration attorney,” Reis said. “She’ll fight to raise minimum wage to $15, she’ll protect our rights to collectively bargain to ensure affordable health care, and allow for comprehensive immigration.”

Reis added Dady has been attempting to set up a debate with Kinzinger for some time.
