Construction Congestion Coming

By Katharine Murphy

Traveling through Livingston and surrounding counties is going to be slow moving over the next few weeks

Construction projects  along Interstate 55 through Grundy, Livingston and McLean counties could cause backups and delays for the next several weeks especially on weekends.

The Illinois Department of Transportation says bridge rehabilitations, pavement repairs and patching will require permanent and intermittent lane closures in several locations.

Be on the lookout for resurfacing between mile markers 201 and 205 with traffic reduced to one lane in each direction.

IDOT recommends the alternative route of Illinois 116 in Pontiac, Illinois 23, Old U.S. 66 and County Highway 1 in Odell

There are several other projects underway and backups are expected during heavier travel periods, especially on Fridays and Sundays.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area.
