A national recognition will be coming to Pontiac Township High School to honor a group during homecoming.
The Special Olympics Unified Champion School program will receive a National Banner from Special Olympics North America. The program organizers are inviting all past athletes and unified partners to receive the banner and walk as participants during the homecoming parade.
PTHS is one of four Illinois schools receiving this honor as a result of meeting national standards of excellence in the areas of inclusion, advocacy and respect.
ESPN has also honored the school’s unified sports program as the top school in Illinois for its Honor Roll 2018, a list of the top 30 schools across the country who are taking part in the Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools program.
