Images of Pontiac have been featured in many national and regional publications, but parts of the city have never before landed in a publication that will be seen by millions.  This year's Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition features pictures taken along the path of Route 66, and some of the shots were taken in Pontiac.  Mayor Bob Russel says it wasn't anything the city went looking for.  Pontiac's reputation as a Route 66 destination made Sports Illustrated want to shoot here. 

Pontiac's famous Route 66 mural behind the Route 66 Museum, and the large Bob Waldmire mural on Main Street are backdrops for models Ariel Meredith and Ashley Smith.  Russell says about 30 people were part of the photo shoot.  The images can be seen in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues and at www.si.com
