Illinois American Water is investing more than $3 million to upgrade both the water treatment and distribution systems in the Pontiac service area.
Construction began about a month ago, and the work will include water main replacement and the construction of a one million gallon ground storage tank and booster station.
Karen Cotton, External affairs manager for Illinois American Water, said these new upgrades will help with many aspects of water use throughout the community.
“It helps to ensure the water system is up to standard and it’s upgraded to help ensure fire protection. Also, that helps to prevent any inconvenience to motorists should there be a water main break in that area and disrupt service, as well as traffic. So, we’re hoping to prevent that, as well,” Cotton said.
Cotton said all of the projects are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
