The Cardinals made up a five-run deficit in the final two innings but lost 7-6 at Cincinnati on a solo home run by Joey Votto. Tonight lefty Jaime Garcia starts for the Cards while right-hander Alfredo Simon takes the ball for the Reds. 6:00 on AM 1230 WJBC.

 

The Cubs scratched out just one run off Phillies starter Jerad Eickhoff and lost at Philadelphia 3-2. John Lackey against Vince Valasquez as right-handers duel in tonight’s rematch. The Cubs placed outfielder Jorge Soler on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain. The Cubs called up Albert Almora Jr. from AAA Iowa.

 

The White Sox started a long homestand with a 10-5 loss to the Nationals. It’s the 19th loss in 25 games for the Sox, who are now at the .500 mark for the first time this season after starting 23-10. Newly-acquired James Shields starts tonight for the White Sox against the Nationals’ Max Scherzer.

 

After compiling a 4-2 record in last week’s home stand, the CornBelters get back to work after two days off as they begin a six-game road trip over five days. The opponents are Evansville and Gateway, teams that took two of three from the Belters at the Corn Crib during the first week of the season.
