The 47th annual Vermillion River Canoe Race is happening Sunday with registration beginning at Play Park in Pontiac.
John Pfaff, one of the event organizers, explained some history of this race.
“It’s been her for 47 years. It’s mostly racers and people who are really serious about canoeing. Pontiac Sportsman’s Club started it back in 1970, which is when it was really busy. Pontiac Paddlers was a group of about 30 people that went to all the races in the Midwest. The Pontiac Paddlers that are still out there – we pull the race off every year,” Pfaff said.
Pfaff was a recent guest on the Community Forum, where he described all of the separate race categories, which can be found in our podcast section at WJEZ.com.
