The Cardinals registered their biggest comeback in 11 years by scoring five times while down to their final out in a 5-4 win over the Reds. A walk to Brandon Moss tied the game and Yadier Molina was hit by a pitch to end it. The rematch tonight has Reds lefty Brandon Finnegan against Cardinals right-hander Mike Leake.

The Cubs and White Sox are back at it today after Monday off. The Cubs begin a 10-game homestand as the Angels send Jered Weaver to the hill as the Cubs hand the ball to John Lackey in a match-up of right-handers. The White Sox start a nine-game trip in Kansas City tonight, lefty Chris Sale against righty Edinson Volquez.

The CornBelters continue their nine-game road trip with the first of three at Frontier League-leading Southern Illinois. Right-hander Charlie Gillies starts on the mound for the Belters against Miners lefty Rick Teasley.

The Peoria Chiefs lost at Cedar Rapids 8-4.

Brandon Crawford set a Giants club record by collecting seven hits in a 14-inning win 8-7 win over the Miami Marlins.

The latest gold for the United States in Rio came from the pool. Ryan Murphy won the 100-meter backstroke while teammate David Plummer took bronze. Lilly King won the 100-meter breaststroke by holding off a late charge from Russia’s Yulia Efimova, who King had criticized for doping.

The U.S. men’s basketball team clobbered Venezuela 113-69 at the Olympics in Rio. The Chicago Bulls’ Jimmy Butler scored 17 in the win.

Illinois State is tabbed for No. 10 in the preseason STATS FCS poll. Five-time defending champion North Dakota State is the preseason number one.  Other Missouri Valley Football Conference rivals in the poll include Northern Iowa 5th, South Dakota State 8th and Western Illinois 20th.

The Bears have confirmed center Hroniss Grasu is officially done for the year after tearing his ACL during practice at Soldier Field.  Veteran Ted Larson has replaced Grasu on the depth chart. Bears coach John Fox won’t blame the patchy grass at Soldier Field for the injury.
