The Cardinals, Cubs and White Sox are back to work after a Monday off.

The Cardinals are in Houston for the first of a two-game series. Jaime Garcia starts on the mound for the Cards against the Astros’ Dallas Keuchel.

The Cubs host the Brewers in a day-night doubleheader. The Brewers send Matt Garza to the mound against the Cubs’ Trevor Cahill in the afternoon match-up, while tonight’s pitching probables are Chase Anderson against Jason Hammel.

The White Sox visit Cleveland tonight with Jose Quintana on the hill while the Indians give the ball to Corey Kluber.

The CornBelters have a rare second straight day off. The Belters maintain a one-game lead for the final wild card spot as they head to Florence for a doubleheader tomorrow.

The Chiefs were rained out in Peoria and will host Quad Cities in a 5 p.m. doubleheader today.

Simone Biles settled for bronze in Rio on the balance beam after a wobbly performance. She was trying to become the first female gymnast to win five gold medals in a single Olympics. U.S. teammate Laurie Hernandez won silver.

The Bahamas’ Shaunae Miller took a risk and it paid off as she dove to the finish line just ahead of the USA’s Allyson Felix to win the women’s 400-meter final.

Two-time Olympic champion Veronica Campbell-Brown has missed out on qualifying for the semifinals in the women’s 200 meters. The 34-year-old won the 2004 and ’08 Olympic titles and was a bronze medalist at the last world championships.

The United States has advanced to the semifinals of the women’s water polo tournament. The U.S. cruised past Brazil 13-3.

Brazil knocked the American men out of the Olympic beach volleyball tournament.

Germany defeated the United States 2-1 in the women’s field hockey quarterfinals.

Illinois State head men’s basketball coach Dan Muller has announced the hiring of former Vanderbilt player Darshawn McClellan as the program’s video coordinator.

The Bears practiced yesterday with the New England Patriots in Massachusetts yesterday with a couple of short scuffles interrupting the session. Bears receiver Alshon Jeffrey got into a shoving match with Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler and linebacker Lamarr Houston also had a similar incident with New England’s Nate Solder.

Gene Sauers has won the rain-delayed U.S. Senior Open. Sauers closed with a 1-under 69 to finish 3-under in his first career senior victory. He closed with three straight pars to go from a one-shot deficit to a one-shot win over Miguel Angel Jimenez and Billy Mayfair.

The Cubs have fired a DJ who played a song with references to violence after reliever Aroldis Chapman left the mound Sunday against the Cardinals. Cubs president Crane Kenney has apologized for the music and says the team will put in place stronger controls. Chapman served a suspension to start the season under the major leagues’ domestic violence policy.
