The CornBelters open the final homestand of 2016 tonight against Evansville. The Belters are 4 1/2 games out of a playoff spot with six games remaining. The Belters are at the Corn Crib tonight through Friday night and Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The homestand opener is live on WJBC.com tonight at 6:20.

 

The Chiefs swept the Burlington Bees 7-6 and 4-3.
The Cardinals won a see-saw battle in Milwaukee 6-5. Stephen Piscotty scored in the ninth inning on a throwing error by Jonathan Villar for the final go-ahead run. Carlos Martinez struck out a career high 13 Brewers. The Cards blew a 3-1 lead in the seventh but tied the game on a two-run homer in the eighth by Randal Grichuk. Tonight, Adam Wainwright and Wily Peralta take the mound in the rematch.

 

The Cubs rallied for an 8-7 win over the Pirates by tying the game in the 9th and 13th innings before Miguel Montero ended it with his RBI single in the 13th. Right-handers Chad Kuhl for the Pirates and Kyle Hendricks for the Cubs meet tonight at Wrigley Field.

 

The White Sox fell to the Tigers 4-3, letting a lead slip away on a two-run homer by Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the eighth inning. Sox right-hander Anthony Ranaudo faces Tigers lefty Daniel Norris tonight.
U.S. Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III has introduced his eight automatic qualifiers for the Ryder Cup competition against Europe. The group includes Zach Johnson, Brandt Snedeker, Brooks Koepka, PGA champion Jimmy Walker, Patrick Reed, Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth and U.S. Open champion Dustin Johnson.
