Railroad crossing upgrades continue in both Dwight and Pontiac.
For Dwight, the newly relocated Chippewa Street crossing will be opened on or about September 6, while at the same time, Illinois 17 will be closed at the Mazon Avenue crossing. Through traffic on Illlinois 17 will be detoured north around the closure, utilizing Route 66 and Illinois 47. There will be no access from West Main Street to Illinois 17 during this period and two-way traffic will be implemented on West Main Street and angled parking on the west side of the street will be changed to parallel parking. When Illinois 17 is reopened, West Main Street will be returned to its normal parking and traffic pattern.
In Pontiac around September 6, Reynolds Street will be reopened on the east side of the tracks to Harward Street. The crossing will remain closed. At that time, portions of the Ladd and Reynolds street intersection will be closed periodically to raise the intersection to match the crossing. Through traffic will be detoured utilizing Route 116, and Ladd, Washington, Madison and Vermillion streets.
The bulk of the work is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving, with only minimal work in the spring. For more updates, follow them on Twitter at twitter.com/IDOTDistrict3.
