The 34th annual Rotary Citizen of the Year Banquet was held yesterday, honoring the Reverends George and Rubye Russell.
During the program, many of their peers and people who have worked alongside them spoke of memories of the pair and how much their work has meant to the community of Pontiac.
The Russells said they were very surprised they were chosen for the award.
“We were overwhelmed and in tears to think we had gotten this award. Just amazed – and still are,” Geroge Russell said.
They also said they plan to continue their volunteer work as long as God continues to give them the strength.
