After reports of scams and harassment, a new ordinance upgrade concerning solicitors was passed at the most recent Pontiac City Council meeting.

Pontiac Mayor Bob Russell said many residents had complained of very aggressive peddlers in recent times, and Russell explained how this new upgrade helps protect people from the bothersome peddlers and also from potential scams.

“We upgrade our ordinance to allow our residents to get a sticker from the city and put it on the door and peddlers are going to know when they get their license if they see that sign, do not go to that door, do not go to their other door and do not knock on the windows. You’ll be hearing more about it. You’ll get more data in your sewer bill. The police department will be working on a little sticker that you can put on your house that will cost nothing. Just something to help protect the people from some of the scams out there and from being bothered,” Russell said.
