Tonight marks the halfway point in the high school football season. Week 5 features a Corn Belt Conference battle at Williamson Field as Pontiac hosts Central Catholic in a 7:30 kick-off heard on WJEZ-FM 98.9 and WJEZ.com.
Other high school football action tonight includes Prairie Central at U-High at Hancock Stadium, Mahomet-Seymour at IVC, Watseka at Dwight, Flanagan-Cornell-Woodland at El Paso-Gridley, Fieldcrest at LeRoy, Normal West at Danville, Normal Community at Richwoods and Peoria at Bloomington.
Pontiac girls swimming defeated Urbana 125-43.
Pontiac girls tennis defeated East Peoria 7-2.
Bloomington won the 25th Pontiac Indian Scramble.
The Cardinals and Cubs hook up this afternoon at Wrigley Field. Right-handers Mike Leake for the Cardinals and Jake Arrieta for the Cubs meet on the mound.
The White Sox continue their road trip tonight in Cleveland. The Sox’ Miguel Gonzalez and the Indians’ Trevor Bauer provide the mound match-up of right-handers. The Cardinals, Cubs and White Sox all had Thursday off.
The New England Patriots dominated the Houston Texans 27-0 in the Thursday night NFL feature.
The Bears have promoted quarterback Matt Barkley to the active roster and placed linebacker Lamarr Houston on injured reserve. Barkley figures to back up Brian Hoyer at Dallas Sunday night after starter Jay Cutler sprained his right thumb in Monday’s loss to Philadelphia.
The United States ended their World Cup of Hockey run without a win after falling 4-3 to the Czech Republic.
