Week 6 of high school football features Pontiac stepping out of league play to host Bowman Academy of Gary, Ind. tonight at 7:00. The game is live on WJEZ-FM 98.9.
Friday’s high school football also includes South Newton, Ind. at Dwight, Prairie Central at Mahomet-Seymour, IVC at Central Catholic, U-High at Olympia, Fieldcrest at Dee-Mack, Eureka at Ridgeview-Lexington in Lexington, El Paso-Gridley at Tri-Valley, LeRoy at Flanagan-Cornell-Woodland, Fisher at Heyworth, GCMS at Tremont, Bloomington at Normal West and Normal Community at Lincoln-Way West.
The Illini are back into action tomorrow on WJEZ-FM 98.9 with a 2:30 p.m. game at Nebraska. Illinois State visits North Dakota State at 1 p.m. tomorrow and Illinois Wesleyan hosts its Homecoming game at 1 p.m. Saturday against Wheaton.
Pontiac boys golf won a Senior Night dual over Ottawa 222-242.
Pontiac girls swimming won at Olympia 102-66.
Pontiac volleyball lost at Mahomet-Seymour 25-19, 25-16.
The Bengals beat the Dolphins 22-7 in the NFL’s Thursday night game.
Bears QB Jay Cutler did not practice yesterday because of a sprained right thumb. His status for Sunday’s game against the Lions has not been determined.
Canada beat Team Europe 2-1 to win the World Cup of Hockey. The Canadians won the best-of-three finals 2-0.
The Bloomington Thunder are on home ice this weekend, hosting the Chicago Steel tonight and the Cedar Rapids Roughriders on Saturday.
Illinois State volleyball hosts Indiana State tonight.
Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III is hoping the U.S. can break Europe’s recent dominance when three days of Ryder Cup play starts today at Hazeltine in Minnesota.
Lady Gaga will headline the Super Bowl 51 halftime show next year in Houston. NFL and Pepsi announced that the pop star will take the stage on Feb. 5, 2017. Gaga sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl earlier this year in Santa Clara, California.
