Dee Brown has resigned as the University of Illinois men’s basketball program’s director of player development and alumni relations. Brown tweeted yesterday that he is leaving during a difficult time for his family but did not explain. He moved into John Groce’s program in April.
High school state golf appearances have been lined up after yesterday’s sectionals. Three Normal Community golfers, Rob Wuethrich, Kyle Edwards and Tyler Kanski, qualified out of the Pekin Sectional. U-High boys advance to state with a tie for second at Metamora. Central Catholic’s Parker Wisdom will also tee it up at state this weekend. The El Paso-Gridley team and Caleb Poindexter of LeRoy advance in Class 1A out of the sectional at Watseka.
Illinois State football has dropped out of the top 25 after their 4th straight loss. The Redbirds will host Southern Illinois Saturday night.
The Cubs couldn’t finish the National League Division Series as the Giants stayed alive with a 6-5 win in 13 innings. Brandon Crawford and Joe Panik traded places with consecutive doubles for the game-winner. Kris Bryant had tied the game for the Cubs with a two-run homer in the ninth inning. The series continues tonight with Game 4 in San Francisco as right-hander John Lackey starts on the mound for the Cubs against Giants lefty Matt Moore.
Washington leads the other NLDS 2-1 after beating the Dodgers 8-3. Game 4 is late this afternoon in Dodger Stadium.
The Indians completed a sweep of the Red Sox with a 4-3 win in Boston. The Tribe will face the Blue Jays in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series Friday night in Cleveland.
Tampa Bay beat Carolina 17-14 in a sloppy Monday Night Football game that ended with a 38-yard field goal by Roberto Aguayo as time expired.
