A woman biking across America to raise awareness to childhood obesity has broken a world record.
Danielle Girdano stopped by the WJEZ Studios September 19 on her Chicago to Santa Monica ride and explained that she was riding for the Highway for Health Project and she knew she was shooting to break a world record, and realized she did just that when she arrived in California Monday in about half the time of the former record.
“We have made it. We are actually on our way back to Texas. We made it in 23 days and the original record was 44. Finished on Monday night as we rolled in kind of late and paced faster than any other athlete in history and had the highest mileage day at 168.54 as we went into Amarillo, Texas. I’m pretty happy. I got a second world record and brought this world record back to the United States and most importantly, we helped some people along the way and that’s what it’s all about – helping families and helping kids,” Girdano said.
Girdano’s forum from September 20 is available at WJEZ.com.
