The National League Championship Series picks up tonight in Los Angeles for Game 3. The Cubs and Dodgers are tied at one win each after splitting in Chicago. Jake Arrieta starts on the mound tonight for the Cubs at the place where he threw his first no-hitter last season. Lefty Rich Hill takes the ball for the Dodgers.
The Indians have a big three-games-to-none advantage in the American League Championship Series after a 4-2 win at Toronto. The Cleveland bullpen had to record 25 of the 27 outs after starter Trevor Bauer left the game in the first inning due to a cut on the pinky finger of his pitching hand. The Tribe can wrap up the pennant with a win this afternoon in Game 4 in Toronto.
In the NFL Monday night feature, the Arizona Cardinals beat the New York Jets 28-3 behind 111 yards and three touchdowns from David Johnson.
The Chicago Bulls have acquired Michael Carter-Williams from Milwaukee for fellow guard Tony Snell. Carter-Williams was the 11th overall selection by the 76ers in the 2013 draft, nine spots ahead of Snell.
The Central Illinois sports community lost one of its biggest supporters with the passing of retired sports official Wayne Meece over the weekend. Meece served as a football head linesman in the Big Ten Conference for 20 years. He worked five bowl games including two Rose Bowls. He also officiated high school basketball and worked three state tournaments. Meece was an All-American quarterback at Illinois State Normal in the late 1950s and was later inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the Bloomington-Normal Officials Association Hall of Fame for his years of officiating high school athletics and mentoring young officials.
