The Livingston County Health Department is reminding residents of the continuation of the WIC program at their offices.
WIC, which stands for Women, Infants and Children, is a program for pregnant mothers and new mothers and babies up to a certain age, depending if they are formula or breast fed.
Registered Nurse Kathy Kennell, who is part of the WIC staff at the health department, was a guest on a recent Community Forum and explained that the income guidelines to be part of the program aren’t as strict as some may think.
“The guidelines are very generous, because a family of four can make up to $44,863, and they can be on the WIC program, so I think a lot of people maybe don’t think they qualify, that they have to have a really severe low income, but the guidelines are generous,” Kennell said.
The WIC Clinics are held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 to 10:30 and 12:30 to 3:30 at the Health and Education Building at 310 East Torrance Avenue. For more information, call 844-7174.
